MATA were appointed by a developer client to add a two storey rooftop extension to an existing two storey residential building to create an additional 4 flats in Anerley, South London.
Our concept of ‘stacking’ is supported by a structural solution that enables each floorplate to project 15cm beyond the floor below. The result is a gain of 20% gross internal area on the top floor in relation to the original building footprint (10% gain on third floor).
The stepping out also enables over-cladding of the existing floors and adding insulation externally in order to improve thermal performance, unify the aesthetic and reposition the building.
