MATA Architects were commissioned to design a bespoke cabinet to house and display a historic scroll in its new home within the library at Westminster Synagogue, London.
Birch Plywood, a modest material, is crafted into a bold, contoured geometry. The end grain is left exposed, expressing the linearity of the design and drawing the eye to and around the cabinet.
“Working with MATA Architects was a real pleasure. They were sensitive and attentive to our requests and needs, completely understanding the project from the moment we have met and explained what we wished to achieve by them designing and building the cabinet for our Haftarah scroll which is one of the few rescued from Holocaust and which survived and being brought to Westminster Synagogue in 1964.
We have found that MATA Architects have not only listened but also carried out our wishes, having been in constant touch, explaining what they were doing and appreciating our input and suggestions.”
